SWEENEY TODD
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a musical written by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and Hugh Wheeler (libretto), winner of eight Tony Awards in 1979, based on the comedy The String of Pearls directed by Christopher Bond, inspired by a 19th-century London metropolitan legend adapted from George Dibdin Pitt's 1842 theatrical play of the same name.
The original edition directed by Harold Prince premiered at the Uris Theater on 1? March 1979, and the reruns continued uninterruptedly until June 29, 1980.
In this version the direction is entrusted to Shawna Farrell, while the orchestra is conducted by Giambattista Giocoli.
The cast includes young students and alumni of the Bernstein School of Musical Theater.
The staging is created in collaboration with the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
